our story
Woman riding a horse through a river

Oregon’s Unsung Heroine

Our hotel celebrates the wild and independent spirit of the American West, embodied by our namesake, Minnie Westman. In the late 1800s, at just 20 years old, Minnie rode horseback through Oregon’s rugged mountains to deliver mail to an otherwise unserved region. With her trusty revolver for protection, little stood in Minnie’s way—not rough terrain nor hungry bears.

In 1888, the New York Times ran an article praising Minnie for her dedication and courage. Though Minnie was a pioneer as the first woman mail carrier west of the Mississippi, few know her story. The Westman honors this intrepid rebel with a cause and her commitment to creating connection within her community.

OUR ———- MUSE

Grounded in Story, design, and Daring

Like Minnie, we chose the road less traveled—breathing new life into Bend’s Historic Post Office and transforming it into a hotel grounded in story, design, and daring. The Westman is for those who travel with guts and curiosity. A stay here isn’t just a pause—it’s a spark. A home base for extraordinary experiences to unfold. A chance to chase what calls you, meet the unexpected, and leave with a story worth telling.
